MEET MARIA
YA Writer, pro tennis player from Ukraine
we weren't leaving for at least an hour.
But becoming an author wasn't a plan.
My love for storytelling began in the corridors of children’s fantasy, worlds like the Nina series and The Adventures of Prince Persi, where I first learned that the world is far bigger and stranger than it appears.
Over time, that sense of wonder met a love for the classics. Influenced by the sharp manners and atmospheric depth of the Brontë sisters, I strive to write stories where vivid imagination meets timeless style.

MY MOM KNEW ONCE I WALKED INTO A BOOKSTORE,
MY WRITING JOURNEY
COVID happened, the world stopped, and I found myself between practices with too much time and too many thoughts. I started writing — just for fun, just to see.

To find my way forward, I threw myself into the craft with the same intensity I once gave to tennis. I signed up for classes with Jessica Brody and Lauren Keys, joined writing communities, and found my first beta readers.
Fininshed my debut novel. Yeyyy!

My life as a pro tennis player was filled with tournaments and practice in sport academies.
2022
While in India for a tournament, a growing shoulder injury finally forced me off the court. But the world was shifting in even more painful ways. War broke out at home, and I found myself unable to return. With tennis gone and my home unreachable, I felt lost. In that silence, I turned to the only thing I had left: my words.

First draft: Finished. Now, I’m deep in the editing trenches and rebuilding. It’s the hardest part of the process, but as any athlete knows, the real work happens in the repetitions.
